Dave Sitek Joining Jane's Addiction for New Album

Spinner reports that Dave Sitek will be working with Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, and Steve Perkins to write and record the next Jane’s Addiction album. Sitek will be taking over bass duties from the recently departed Duff McKagan. The ex-GNR/current Velvet Revolver bassist claimed “creative differences” were the source of the split.

Sitek is a founding member of TV On The Radio, and has risen to be a prominent producer in indie-rock over the last decade, having worked with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars, and Daniel Higgs, among others. His first solo album, Maxiumum Balloon, was released back in September. It’s doubtful that Sitek will join the band on tour, though; a Jane’s show on New Year’s Eve featured former full-time bass player Chris Chaney.

The record, the follow-up to 2003’s Strays, is being recorded in Los Angeles and is slated for a summer release from Capitol. Farrell and Navarro had these inspiring things to say, via press release – Farrell: “Dave, Steve and I are fully immersed in the process of making modern music. It has been a great experience thus far, and the results have so much potential." Navarro: “The events over the last year have proven themselves to be a necessary part of the journey as they have led us to our current creative team and direction."

I suppose Sitek is rather well-versed in “making modern music,” so maybe this collaboration will be less weird than it sounds.
