Compton rapper Game – who you may know better as as The Game – has dropped a massive “double album” of a mixtape called Purp & Patron. The tape, presented by Funkmaster Flex and DJ Skee, is 29 tracks strong and features a huge range of high-profile guests and producers, including RZA, Wiz Khalifa, Pharrell (and The Neptunes!), Dr. Dre, Bun B, Rick Ross, Bink!, Big Daddy Kane, Fabolous, Ashanti, and KRS-One. I’m just making my way through the first half now, but there are some very strong tracks on here – maybe some of his strongest since his mid-00s debut with G-Unit. Standouts include “Soo Woo f/ Lil Wayne”, “R.I.P. Story”, “Heart Breaker f/ Rev Burke”, a totally decent La Roux-sampling cut called “The Kill”, and a new interpretation of the Slick Rick classic “Children’s Story” (which is something that should’ve gotten old really fast but somehow hasn’t quite yet).
