Legendary producer J Dilla passed away just over five years ago, but new work of his is still being unearthed. Two posthumous albums have been released so far, The Shining in 2006 and Jay Stay Paid in 2009, and now a third is reportedly in the works. Dilla's mother, Maureen "Ma Dukes" Yancey took to Youtube to announce the record, titled The Rebirth of Detroit, in praise of his hometown. She says that the people working on the project will include some of Dilla's closest friends, and, as the title suggests, the album will be Motor City-centric. "It's a tribute from the heart and soul of these people, and it's something different than what's been done in the past." Mrs. Yancey goes on to say that Rebirth will also show people "what hip-hop has to offer" and educate them about a thriving and positive hip-hop culture. No word on when it'll be completed or who exactly is collaborating, but new music from Dilla is definitely something to look forward to.
