It's been some time since we last heard from U.K. post-punk revivalist Tom Vek -- six years, in fact, since he dropped his mid-decade debut, We Have Sound and its standout singles in "C.C. (You Set The Fire In Me)" and "I Ain't Saying My Goodbyes".
Whether you remember that album fondly or slept on it, you'll likely be pleasantly surprised by Vek's comeback single "A Chore", our first look at Leisure Seizure, out June 6 via Island. It's a loping, sort-of-heavy track, driven by a stomping drumbeat and Vek's vocals, which drag in a way that really sells the hook: "What you perceive as life is no more than a chore." Carefully arranged synth, guitar, and bell flourishes bring the whole thing home, and make me wish we'd heard something more from Vek in the back half ot the '00s. Accompanying the single's release is a video directed by Ollie Evans. Watch below, and pre-order Leisure Seizure at Vek's website.
