The legendary artist formerly formerly known as Prince plans to perform a 21-show stint in the city of angels starting this Thursday, April 14, and tickets are on sale now. So far, only three shows have been announced as part of the "Welcome 2 America" tour launched in December.
The '21 Nite Stand' is planned to begin at The Forum in Inglewood, according to a telephone appearance Prince made on the late-night show "Lopez Tonight". Prince will perform on the show Tuesday, April 13 before his L.A. stint begins. The remaining eighteen shows have yet to be announced. Not all shows will be at The Forum, but you can expect to have the full details only days in advance. Preliminary dates include:
4/14 Inglewood, CA - The Forum
4/21 Inglewood, CA - The Forum
4/22 Inglewood, CA - The Forum
All ticket sales go through Ticketmaster or promoter Live Nation, with 85 percent of the seats priced at an affordable $25, service fees included. Tickets go on sale for the first trio of shows at 10 A.M. PST. You're welcome Angelinos for the late wake up call -- in the past, tour tickets have sold out in a half hour.
The "Welcome 2 America" tour started with six shows in New York City in December. Dates have rolled through sporadically with appearances in Oakland, CA, as well as the Carolinas. Not to stumble in quietly, Prince has been joined onstage with the likes of Chaka Khan, Esperanza Spalding, Santana, and a man with his own flamboyant style, Cee Lo Green. No clues about his Los Angeles guests have been leaked, though plenty are expected. The first two Madison Square Garden shows sold out in 30 minutes and more than 45,000 tickets were sold in the first three days for the string of Oakland shows, according to a press release from the Prince tour.
[UPDATE:]
Prince announced three more dates for his Los Angeles residency during his performance on Saturday, April 30. Tickets are rumored to have been priced as little as $10 at last Thursday's show.
Prince has performed seven of the 21 live shows and according to a press release, "Many fans are attending each concert because the tickets are so affordable. And every night the show is different with Prince constantly changing the set list and adding new music."
Oh, and don't forget to wait even after the encore. He played a complete 1 1/2 hours after most of the crowd had left following a "hits" set lasting 2 hours, according to this report.
