English post-punk masters Wire will start the new year right by releasing a new album, Red Barked Tree, on January 10 on their own Pink Flag records. It will the second record in a row made without founding guitarist Bruce Gilbert.
Original members Robert Grey, Graham Lewis, and Colin Newman remain, though, and from the sound of the driving first teaser, “Two Minutes,” they’re out to continue reminding us that a band going thirty-years-strong can keep up and be relevant. The muscled two-minute blast bodes very well for Red Barked Tree, and reminds me a bit of Blur’s “Parklife”, if “Parklife” had a really tough, no-bullshit older brother.
