There's plenty of activity in the Grizzly Bear camp. The boys' eagerly awaited next release is due later in the year, and singer and guitarist Daniel Rossen has a solo EP, Silent Hour/Golden Mile, out next month.
Last year though, it was the multi-talented Chris Taylor that was mostly in the spotlight. A long-gestating solo project under the alias CANT finally took flight, thanks in part to assistance on the creative/writing side from Taylor's pal George Lewis Jr. of Twin Shadow. The result was Dreams Come True, a dreamy, seductive and probably underrated album inspired mostly by loss, whose highlights included "Believe", "Too Late, Too Far" and especially "She Found a Way Out".
In this conversation last fall, we talked to Chris at length about the Merlot-inspired genesis of the record, the process of making it--not always an easy one, the mischaracterisation, in the musician's opinion, of Dreams Come True as an "electronic" album and his working relationship with Lewis. In non-CANT-related talk, we discuss early sessions for the Grizzly Bear album, held last summer in Marfa, Texas, and Ed Droste's September wedding to longtime partner Chad McPhail.
Rewinding a few months for this week's Face Time, it's music and conversation with Chris Taylor of CANT.
