Given the focus-challenged world we currently inhabit – a genie that would seem to have left the bottle, never to return – Japandroids may be on to something. Why bother with an album? Certainly their debut full length last year, Post-Nothing was a fine release, and certainly their recent compilation of older material, No Singles, was an exciting catch-up, but in terms of new material, Brian and Dave are eschewing the full-length in 2010 in favor of a series of singles. First up back in the spring was “Art Czars/ Racer X” and more recently the duo returned with another. “Younger Us” mines the same sort of youthful abandon the boys did on “Young Hearts Spark Fire”. They’ve still got it and then some.
And anyway even if they wanted to, Japandroids would hardly have time to make a new full album. Dudes are road warriors, hardly ever home in Vancouver long enough to shower before heading out again. That relentless touring is one of many things we touched on a few months ago with Brian King from Japandroids in Austin – along with the singles series we are now in the midst of. So if you haven’t seen it, check out the interview, if you’ve seen it, it’s worth another look. And Japandroids’ latest “Younger Us” is definitely worth a listen, or ten.
