Hopefully many of you will be tuned in to "Animal Collective Radio" on Sunday night when Geologist takes over programming duties and offers up the world premiere of An Co's highly anticipated Centipede HZ.
Before we get to that though, how about some out-there visuals to accompany the lead single from the album, "Today's Supernatural", the Avey Tare rip-snorter that some fans have already likened to a twisted take on a Beach Boys track, and we won't dispute tbat. But back to the video: it was the Collective's unofficial fifth Danny Perez at the helm, the man already responsible for such moments of memorable weirdness as ODDSAC and other clips.
There's not a Panda, Deakin or Geologist in sight, but Avey is turned out as Pierrot on an acid trip, in spatula-applied makeup, ruffed color and playing keys, while elsewhere, something resembling a cross between HR Punfnstuf and a Chinese dragon tears across a desert in a dune buggy, then fends off an attack by disembodied arms. Of course he does. We like to imagine that this is the sort of thing the Mars Curiosity rover will encounter up on the red planet.
Eye-popping, if not gouging, accompaniment to a trippy, driving song. We can't wait to hear the rest. From Centipede HZ, Animal Collective have our NV Music Video of the Day, with "Today's Supernatural".
