Dave Longstreth made his directorial debut with this first video from the Dirty Projedctors' upcoming Swing Lo Magellan, and on the surface it could hardly be simpler: images of each band member, mostly in silhouette, over a changing-color background, with occasional flashes of light revealing the faces. As with most things in the resolutely exploratory world of the Dirty P's, the idea behind this no-frills look is a bit more involved. Via the band's publicist, Longstreth explains:

GUN HAS NO TRIGGER is about the possibility for true dissent, and how I can't figure out what that could be. What is a 2012 Exodus from the Society of the Spectacle (to mix language Situationist and Rastafari)?

So we made a video from the iconography of the default profile image used by Facebook and Gmail, and also the look of the classic Apple iPod commercials.

The colors in the background are the ones I think of when I hear the harmonies of Amber and Haley (via experimental synesthesia).

    Enjoy!!

So there you go. And here's to dissent. A slinky, thrilling track and a video that takes its cue from some of the iconic images of this age. Our NV Music Video of the Day is "Gun Has No Trigger" from Dirty Projectors.
