When we spoke to Dave Prowse and Brian King of Japandroids for Face Time earlier this summer, the guys admitted that in the time between their debut Post-Nothing and the new Celebration Rock they came to realize that they ought to play to their strengths. What the duo does really well--in as real, thrilling and unvarnished a way as any young band we know of--is create those fist-pumping "whoa whoa" moments that may seem to some a relic of another era but are in fact, of course, timeless.
That sound was epitomized on the first album's exhilarating "Young Hearts Spark Fire", and that breakaway hit's closest cousin on the new album is "The House that Heaven Built". It's a barn burner that wastes no time--20 seconds to be precise--in getting to the "oh-oh"'s. That sort of rousing, sweaty, no-nonsense song deserves a no-frills video, and that's what we get in this Jim Larson-directed clip.
It's a fun a "road video" as we've seen in a while: Brian and Dave on stage, back stage, loading the van, tooling a boat around a lake, hanging with possibly the world's raddest tour manager, Lewis Lovely. General good times. Rock on. Our NV Music Video of the Day is "The House that Heaven Built", from Japandroids.
