Nine albums in fourteen years is not a bad clip – how about two in one year? That’s the pace currently being set by Mark Everett aka E aka the man behind one of the more durable and reliably exploratory indie pop outfits that LA has ever produced, Eels. E’s latest, Tomorrow Morning is a brighter affair than its predecessors, though that was almost inevitable given the primal nature of Hombre Lobo and the brokenhearted, sad sack resignation of January’s End Times, which made Beck’s Sea Change seem like a walk in the park. Contrast with that the new album’s “Spectacular Girl”, which percolates with so much infatuation you have to expect birds to start singing. Along with Casio-riffic “Baby Loves Me”, in which nothing really sucks that bad thanks to the titular baby’s love, optimistic “This is Where it Gets Good”, and the rose-colored rebirth waltz of “Oh So Lovely” and you’ve got to come to the conclusion that our man E has found him some love. Let’s hope that continues.
Question is: are you gonna give E some love? It’s time for you to check out Tomorrow Morning – and tell Noisevox what you think! Rate and review the new one from Eels.
