Here's a lightearted romp with just enough wicked weirdness to make it Rufus Wainwright : "Out Of The Game", the title track from the perpetually blasé prince of baroque pop's seventh studio album. The record, out today, was produced by another clothes horse with pedigree, Mark Ronson, and it's a fun ride. But it's almost eclipsed by this video.
Rufus plays chameleon in the clip, donning blonde "Dressed to Kill" like drag, playing a shaggy emo kid, and sporting a dandyish fedora--hardly a stretch-- the real star here is the godlike Helena Bonham Carter, eschewing her usual over-the-topness for a buttoned-down spinster librarian, who, when she's not dreaming of another exisetnce, is policing renegade photocopying and smoking among the stacks.
You may have heard thay Rufus became a papa last year, and while we don't know exactly what that album and song title refer to, we do know that nothing will put one out of the game faster than parenthood. Of course, having gotten sober a while back, the game had been toned down considerably for our man for a while.
Sure to put a smile, or at least a Rufus-like smirk, on your face, our NV Music Video of the Day is "Out of the Game" from Rufus Wainwright.
