Devotchka, a Denver-based group that creates a multi-, if not outer-world sound, released another epic jounrey last week with their fifth album, 100 Lovers. The album is emotionally charged sonic boom of bittersweet, remonce, and meloncholy. Somehow the band mantains a celebatory note using percussions, hand claps, and strings that create whimsy.
The band is perhaps best known for their work creating soundtrack for the movie "Little Miss Sunshine". The off-beat comedy captured the hearts of citics while the music of How it Ends propelled the loss and triumph felt by the film family - if you didn't get loss in the music of "Happiness," you just don't have a soul.
The group took one year to craft 100 Lovers in the Arizona desert, released March 1 by Anti-. This time around the group may not have partnered with film greats, but the drama is in no way lost. The album is available on iTunes or on Devotchka's website. Their North Amerian tour also launched on March 1 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Check out the remaining dates below.
